Rooted in community.
Created with purpose.
Happy Hair Clay grew from a life shaped by community, faith, meaningful relationships, and a desire to create lasting opportunity.
Kingdom
Community
Happy Hair Clay began in Prentis Park — a close-knit, historically under-resourced neighborhood in Portsmouth that has endured the effects of poverty and violence while remaining rich in resilience, generosity, faith, and community.
It is the neighborhood we call home and where we have spent years sharing life with children, families, and neighbors.
Work with
purpose
Our vision is to create meaningful, dignified work within the neighborhood — work that recognizes people's gifts, strengthens households, and opens doors to lasting opportunity.
The heart
of our work
At the heart of this work is our faith in Jesus and our belief that He is restoring lives, families, and communities through relationships, discipleship, and meaningful work.
A search for
something better
Happy Hair Clay began with an honest search for a clean styling product that would nourish the hair and scalp without harsh or artificial ingredients.
The early formula brought remarkable results — no more dry scalp, clearer skin, and healthier-feeling hair. When friends experienced similar benefits and kept asking for more, we knew it was something worth sharing.
A business
born from life
Cam and Anna moved with their family to Prentis Park in 2021. Life here has been shaped by neighbors, shared meals, prayer, and relationships that have grown over time.
Happy Hair Clay grew out of that life together. As the business grows, the hope is that it will create dignified, paid work for people in the neighborhood, direct resources back into Prentis Park, and help sustain the ministry from which it came.

Styling Tips
Simple application techniques designed for different hair types and everyday styling needs.
01
Short, Straight-to-Wavy Hair
Rub a pea-sized amount between your palms until completely smooth. Work it through towel-dried hair from back to front and roots to ends. Shape with your fingers for texture or use a comb for a cleaner finish.
02
Curly-to-Coily Hair
Apply a lightweight, water-based leave-in conditioner to damp hair first. Rub a rice-grain amount of clay between damp palms, then scrunch it into selected curls or twist it through the ends. Once dry, touch a trace to the roots and lift gently with your fingers or a hair pick.
03
Edges & Tapered Styles
Lightly dampen the edges and warm a fingertip amount until smooth. Apply it in short sections and shape with your fingertip or an edge brush. Use alone for flexible control, or follow with an alcohol-free edge control for extra hold. Set beneath a satin scarf for 5–10 minutes if needed.
04
Long Wavy Hair
On dry, styled hair, rub a rice-grain amount between your palms until nearly invisible. Lightly skim it over the mid-lengths and ends, then pinch or twist individual pieces to define layers and waves. Avoid coating the entire head so the hair keeps its natural movement.
05
Beard & Facial Hair
Warm a rice-grain to pea-sized amount between your fingertips. Work it upward through a clean, slightly damp beard to reach the roots, then smooth it downward through the length. Finish with a beard comb or brush and use your fingertips to tame stray hairs.
06
Ponytails & Flyaways
Lightly dampen the hairline and crown. Warm a rice-grain amount between your palms, smooth it over the surface as you gather the ponytail, then brush toward the elastic with a soft-bristle brush. Finish stubborn flyaways with your fingertips and set with a satin scarf if needed.
