Our Story

Happy Hair Clay started in my kitchen out of pure frustration.

For years, I dealt with dry scalp, dandruff, acne, and irritation, while using the same store-bought hair products everyone else used. The more I looked into the ingredient labels, the more I started wondering if all the harsh chemicals and synthetic fillers were doing more harm than good.

So I decided to make my own.

What started as a personal experiment quickly turned into an obsession with finding the right combination of natural, organic ingredients that actually cared for my hair and scalp while still performing like a premium styling product. After months of testing different formulas, I finally landed on something that worked. My scalp felt healthier, the dandruff disappeared, my skin improved, and even my hair looked thicker and stronger.

I shared a few jars with my friends and they loved it too.

Eventually, I sent samples out to people all over the country — old friends, coworkers, anyone willing to try it honestly. The feedback was overwhelmingly positive, and that’s when I realized this could become something bigger than just a product I made for myself.

To take it seriously, I partnered with a professional chemist specializing in natural and organic cosmetic products. Together, we spent over a year refining the formula to make sure it delivered everything we wanted: a clean matte finish, a firm but flexible hold, nourishing ingredients, and dependable performance without compromising on quality or loading it with unnecessary chemicals.

One of my favorite ingredients throughout the entire process was organic castor oil because of how incredibly nourishing it was for both hair and scalp. It helps lock in moisture, strengthen hair, soothe irritation, and support healthy growth at the follicle level — and it quickly became one of the foundation ingredients in the formula.

Another part of what made the formula feel special was the blend of organic essential oils we chose. Cinnamon, rosemary, and eucalyptus weren’t just added for their benefits to the hair and scalp — they also create an energizing, refreshing scent that naturally promotes feelings of clarity, confidence, and happiness. Rosemary and eucalyptus are known for their invigorating, uplifting properties, while cinnamon adds a warm richness that makes the entire experience feel clean, comforting, and alive. Together, they became more than just ingredients — they became part of the feeling behind Happy Hair Clay itself.

The name itself came unexpectedly one day while reading through the book of Jonah. In Jonah 4:6, the Hebrew describes a castor oil plant growing over Jonah’s head to give him shade and ease his discomfort, and it says that Jonah was “very happy” because of it. The moment I read that, something clicked. A product built around healthy hair, scalp care, and ingredients that had genuinely improved my everyday confidence and happiness suddenly had its name:

Happy Hair Clay.

Today, Happy Hair Clay is still built on the same idea it started with: create a product that works incredibly well while using ingredients you can actually feel good about putting on your body every day.
